New Year, New Life?

Santana is back and ready to rock! I had taken some time off to get a few writing projects in line, and I gotta tell you that the moments away from the blog, were tough. I write all the time, but never before in the capacity of an "instant-media" format.  In all fairness, I am still an "old schooler" that still believes in the printed word; the hard bound books that await the reader like a a taxi cab with an open door to escort you to the exciting adventures contained within.  The well worn paperback that has been poured through at least a hundred times, found its way from rummage sale to rummage sale, hand to hand, bathroom to bedroom begging to be pured through again, versus the web based, "let me get all the info in 5 minutes" gig.  I do have to admit that blogs and the social media networks are by far the easiest and quickest way to bring an author's writing to the general public though.  I'll also admit that there are not a lot of people out there like me, reading die hards that spend countless time perusing the shelves hunting down the next greatest novel.  There are however in my opinion, tons of people that don't mind getting a kick out of the occasional blog put out by someone like me; a cynical, observant and rebel of all that is mainstream.  So there you have it. I am officially back, and yet, still rough and unedited.

This year I saw so many things that I would have loved to comment on.  From the outrageous, (Li-Lo in Playboy, really?) to the "What Was He Thinking?" stuff  (Charlie Sheen going off like he had a bad case of Tourette's syndrome.) All in all, it has been an eventful 2011. We saw three former enemies of the U.S meet their maker; Osama, Gaddafi, and Kim Jong II; we saw the foretelling of the end of the world in 2012 through the Mayan calendar (I know you are as anxious as I am, right?), and most sad of all, the Oprah Winfrey show made it's final curtain call (why are there so many reruns then?), I'm joking.

My final sober thought for 2011 is simply this; as you get ready for 2012, and as you make your resolution (everybody does), are you aiming for just a new year, or a whole new life? See, there are people that will vow to lose weight, gain money, a better job, a better romance, a better parent, the list goes on and on, but sometimes what I think it really boils down to is what they really want is a new life, not merely a better one. Think about it seriously, you don't want to just lose a few pounds and get healthy, you want to lose a lot of pounds and look mesmerizing in that new bikini in the back of your closet.  You don't want just a new job, you want to make a ton of extra money to get away from all the debt you have accrued right? In order to do that my friends, and be successful, you have to change the platform. If the Beatles had never chosen to come to America, the world may have never known who they were. New Year, or New Life? Aiming the bar low, or as high as you can dream?

You have a New Year's resolution. Great; swing the bat everyday, over and over again, until you hit it out of the park, and if you go down swinging, who cares?  But if you are standing there on December 31st, 2012 like me, saying you gave it your very best, and it really doesn't matter about the outcome,  I'll be right there with you, and maybe we can have a drink together! Have an awesome New Year, Cheers.
